Negrense hurdler Mico Villaran and swimmer Maxene Hayley Uy delivered a gold medal each for the Western Visayas delegation in the ongoing 2024 Palarong Pambansa in Cebu City.
Villaran, a standout from the Romanito P. Maravilla National High School, captured a gold medal in the secondary boys’ 110-meter hurdles event with a record-setting performance.
Uy, who is from Lamblight International School in Bacolod City, also made her presence felt for Region 6, with a golden finish in the secondary girls’ 100-meter backstroke event.
Uy also won a silver medal, with Juliana S. Dejilla of University of St. La Salle-Bacolod, Ilongga Dee Vianne Catedrilla and Aklanon Nuche Veronica Ibit in the secondary girls’ 4×50 meter medley relay.
Christine Diaz, from Eusebio Lopez Memorial Integrated School in Negros Occidental’s Sagay City, also contributed a silver medal for Western Visayas in the secondary girls’ discus throw event.
Meanwhile, the Western Visayas secondary girls’ volleyball team, represented by the Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts, opened their title defense with a 25-16, 25-18 victory over Region 12 Soccsksargen on Thursday afternoon, July 11.
Ilongga Ana Francessca Hermosura emerged as Player of the Game for Region 6 after finishing with eight points, on six attacks and two service aces./ASC, WDJ
