The Gilas Pilipinas Under-17 men’s basketball team continued their downfall in the 2024 FIBA U-17 World Cup on Saturday, July 6.
The young Filipino ballers absorbed an 85-66 defeat against China at the Ahmet Comert Sports Hall in Turkey, as they fell to their sixth straight defeat in six games.
Joaquin Ludovice led the way for the Josh Reyes-coached squad with 15 points, six rebounds and four assists, CJ Amos followed with 14 markers, while Edryn Morales and Bonn Daja each scored 12.
The nationals suffered an early setback in the game and had to deal with a 16-4 start, all thanks to the firepower of Li Liu and Yuezhou Li.
China’s lead eventually grew to as much as 30 points later in the contest, and this allowed them to add to the list of teams who dealt the Gilas boys a beat down in the tournament.
Lithuania, Spain, Puerto Rico, Team USA, and Argentina have all defeated the Philippines in their previous games with an average margin of 55.6 points per loss.
This defeat increased it to 61.4.
Yuezhou led China with 24 points and 12 rebounds, and following him was Wenwei He, who posted 17 markers, six boards and three assists. (ABS-CBN News)
