The Negros Occidental Provincial Power Sector Study Group (PPS-SG) has worked with the Department of Energy (DOE) in finalizing the framework for the Provincial Energy Development Roadmap.
“The framework will now be fleshed out to reflect specific interventions and measures needed to attain the power security goal of the province,” former Rafael Coscolluela, the province’s consultant on energy and environmental concerns, said in a statement yesterday.
In partnership with the University of St. La Salle, the PPS-SG, with representatives from the DOE, held a two-day planning conference on June 19 and 20 to finalize the basic framework, followed by further discussions to address the broad range of identified issues and concerns.
The attendees were from the Energy Policy and Planning Bureau, the Electric Power Industry Management Bureau, Renewable Energy Management Bureau, and the Visayas Field Office of the DOE.
According to the PPS-SG headed by Jeanette Patindol, the conference with the DOE “marks a significant step in the roadmap’s development process.”
“Once completed, the roadmap will be presented to all stakeholders for adoption at a forthcoming summit,” it added.
During the conference, the PPS-SG presented the Negros Occidental Power Sector Assessment Study and the outputs of the Power Summit held last May 3.
The DOE presented its updated Power Outlook and Energy Roadmap, followed by discussions on the data presented and related concerns.
Coscolluela then introduced the proposed framework for the Provincial Energy Development Roadmap and sought suggestions and input from the participants.
The crafting of the Provincial Energy Development Roadmap is part of the SecuRE Negros campaign, the province-led commitment to energy security through the support for distributed energy systems or distributed energy resource models and the use of renewable energy sources.
It is adopting the #RRAAASEON2030 for Reliable, Renewable, Available, Accessible, Affordable, and Sustainable Energy for Occidental Negros, with 2030 as the target deadline. (PNA)
