Scottie Thompson will not suit up for Gilas Pilipinas in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament from July 2 to 7 in Latvia.

Team manager Richard del Rosario confirmed on Friday, June 21, that the Ginebra guard has yet to fully recover from a “bulging disc that has bothered him” in his PBA team’s campaign in the 2024 Philippine Cup.

“Wala pang sigurado [na kapalit] kasi kailangan ng visa. Baka hindi umabot,” said Del Rosario as the team continued its preparation for the tourney in Laguna.

Gilas will play without Thompson and injured players Jamie Malonzo and AJ Edu.

The national team will be leaving the country on Tuesday, June 25, to face Turkey and Poland for a couple of exhibition matches.

But before that, Gilas will be facing the Taiwan Mustangs in an exhibition match on Monday, June 24.

Gate attendance is open to the public.

The Philippines is bracketed with Georgia and host country Latvia in Group A, while Group B will have Cameroon, Brazil and Montenegro in the qualifiers where only one spot for the Olympics will be up for grabs. (ABS-CBN News)
