A former school janitor was arrested for allegedly setting fire to an elementary school at Barangay 5 in Negros Occidental’s San Carlos City on Friday afternoon, June 14.

Recho Cabales, 58 years old, admitted that he set Daisy’s ABC School on fire because he was angry after he was terminated from the school.

Cabales felt guilty when he learned that City Mayor Renato Gustilo’s ancestral house was also gutted by the fire.

San Carlos police chief, Colonel Nazer Canja, said Cabales was terminated from his job at the school just hours before the incident.

Police recovered gasoline from Cabales, believing that it was used in the blaze.

The suspect is currently detained at the police station.

Police said a complaint for arson will be filed against Cabales before the city prosecutor’s office.

Meanwhile, Gustilo said they are waiting for the investigation to be completed.

His family is temporarily staying at his sibling’s house, while they are looking for a house to rent./JB, WDJ
