STI-WNU, JJP-UNO-R advance to Chairman’s Cup 21-U semis

The STI-West Negros University (WNU) AS Group Bleachers and JJP-University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (UNO-R) moved on to the semifinals of the 3rd Chairman’s Cup Negros 21-U category after their separate quarterfinals wins on Thursday, June 13.

The STI-WNU AS Group Bleachers dominated the Mejica Automotive/Fyr Fyter in the quarters at Willy and Nolita Au Court of Bacolod Tay Tung High School. They will face the Colegio de San Agustin Strived in the semifinals on Saturday, June 15.

Denmark Sigaya and Nap Lawrence Aleligay delivered 17 markers apiece to lead the way for STI-WNU, Jandro Coronado added 16 markers, while Felix Unabia contributed seven points.

On the part of the Mejica Automotive, Shannon Gray Sealy anchored their offense with 13 points, Chrischen Jayry Beronio added 10 markers, while John Loyd Martinez and James Roger Jaype tallied nine markers apiece.

On the other hand, JJP-UNO-R scored a convincing win over the Visayan Maritime Academy (VMA) Undrafted in quarterfinals.

They will tangle with University of St. La Salle in the Final Four.

Axcel Fernandez and Devon Paul Caballero delivered 21 and 20 points, respectively, to lead the way for UNO-R. Burj Gabriel Lapu-os added 12 markers, while Mark Alfonso Macasa contributed nine.

Robert John Matti top-scored for the VMA with 19 points, Marco Ugdiman nailed 15 markers and Ian Jay Capuyan dropped eight points in the defeat.

In the 17-U category, the Acster Bacolod Tay Tung High School drubbed C&C Café/Ang Bata Hardware, 97-64; University of St. La Salle defeated Reach Sports-Colegio de San Agustin, 63-51; and New Energy Marketing/Raak Transport dominated the Bobcats, 99-65.

The three semifinals winners will advance to the single robin championship round with the no. 1 ranked squad will be declared as champion.
