Jealousy is being eyed as the motive behind the killing of a police personnel allegedly by his fellow officer in Bacolod City’s Barangay Tangub on Friday afternoon, May 31.

Police Station 8 commander Major Eugene Tolentino said they are processing documents for filing a murder case against 26-year-old Police Patrolman Alvin Rios, who allegedly shot and killed 31-year-old Staff Sergeant Jotham Arrem Tuto.

“We are now preparing for the processing of documents to file the case [on Monday, June 3] at the city prosecutor’s office,” Tolentino said.

He said the case is being filed as murder, but the charges may be revised depending on the evaluation of the prosecutor.

Rios, a native of Barangay Bugnay in Antique province’s Valderrama town, was assigned to the 1st Mobile Force Company of the Iloilo Provincial Police Office.

Tuto, a resident of Barangay Paraiso in Negros Occidental’s Sagay City, was assigned to the Mobile Patrol Unit of the Bacolod City Police Office.

An initial police investigation showed Rios went to his house in a subdivision in Tangub to visit his six-month-old son, when he saw Tuto and his former live-in partner inside the bedroom.

Tolentino said Tuto tried to pacify the suspect.

He allegedly shot the victim twice using his service firearm.

The victim was rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

A .9mm caliber pistol, two fired cartridges and four magazines with live ammunition were recovered from the crime scene.

Rios is now under police custody./JB, WDJ
