The Negros Occidental provincial government has expressed support for the issuance of a provisional authority (PA) for the power supply agreement between Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) and the Energy Development Corporation (EDC).
In his letter to Atty. Monalisa Dimalanta, chairperson of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer emphasized the importance of issuing the PA to address the current state of power supply and economic conditions.
Ferrer said if the PA is approved, it will minimize Ceneco’s exposure to the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market, where electricity prices are more volatile.
Ferrer also expressed confidence that the ERC will recognize the decision and will act in favor of Ceneco’s motion for the issuance of the PA.
The PSA aims to strengthen the partnership between Ceneco and EDC, ensuring a stable and reliable supply of electricity in Negros Occidental.
The ERC is expected to make a decision on the PA soon, and if approved, it will pave the way for Ceneco and EDC to implement the agreement.
The provincial government is keen on supporting initiatives that promote economic development and improve the quality of life for its residents./JB, WDJ
