The P525 million fund for the renovation of the Burgos Public Market will be allocated for other projects after market vendors voted against the city government’s plan.
Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, who recently met with some members of the vendor association, said yesterday that the renovation has been cancelled.
“Kun indi kamo kauyon sang design ukon plano, ano ang gusto niyo? Kay ari na ang pondo, ang funds para makay-o ang merkado,” Benitez said.
“You tell me what you want, kay kun indi gid kamo gusto tandugon, ipangitaan ko na lang iban,” he added.
The city government plans to rehabilitate the Burgos Public Market into a three-storey building.
Benitez mentioned that the funds could be used for other projects, such as renovating Libertad Public Market and Central Market.
He said the vendors have expressed concerns over the market’s current state, such as poor drainage system, old toilets, and a lack of maintenance./JB, WDJ
