The Department of Education-Division of Himamaylan City is proposing to adjust class hours amid the scorching heat which causes disruption of face-to-face classes in the city.

Himamaylan Mayor Raymund Tongson said the DepEd city schools division discussed their proposal during a recent meeting with the local school board, as they explore ways to adapt to the changing weather conditions.

Tongson said they proposed implementing early school hours “like starting classes early for morning shifts.”

“While those in areas where there is not much heat, whole day classes will still be implemented,” he said.

The mayor added that the DepEd’s proposal “is fully supported by the city government.”

In recent weeks, face-to-face classes in several cities and towns in Negros Occidental were suspended due to high heat index.

Earlier, the DepEd granted school heads the authority to suspend in-person classes in case of extreme heat and other calamities that may endanger the health and safety of learners and the teaching staff./JB, WDJ
