The Department of Education (DepEd) said yesterday no particular color is prescribed for the alternate uniforms of teachers and non-teaching staff in all public schools nationwide.

The agency’s response came following remarks that the new alternate uniforms resemble “campaign colors” during the 2022 polls.

“Wala pong prescribed colors ng DepEd collared shirt. Any existing DepEd collared [shirt] may be worn,” DepEd Undersecretary Michael Poa told reporters in a Viber message.

Poa said other DepEd collared shirts can be worn amid scorching temperatures across the country.

“Kahit ano pong DepEd collared shirt na meron na ang ating mga guro na nagamit sa Palaro, Brigada Eskwela, Balik Eskwela and other DepEd activities,” he said.

Besides this, the DepEd also allowed teachers and non-teaching personnel to wear any white collared shirt with the DepEd and MATATAG logo.

On Monday, April 15, the DepEd released an infographic per Memorandum DM-OUHROD-2024-0662, allowing the use of the said tops alongside appropriate pairs including slacks, jeans, cargo pants, or any other matte black pants.

Leggings, tights and jogging pants, meanwhile, are prohibited under the Civil Service Commission’s revised dress code prescribed for all government officials and employees in the workplace. (PNA)
