Petro Gazz has clinched its fifth win in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference.
The Gazz Angels made quick work of league newcomer, Capital1, 25-11, 25-19, 25-14, on Holy Tuesday, March 26, at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
Filipino-American Brooke Van Sickle soared high, leading the Gazz Angels with 19 points on 15 attacks, three aces and one block.
The prized recruit of Petro Gazz of University of Hawaii was happy with their comfortable win against the Solar Spikers.
“I’m proud of the team. Everyone contributed, everyone came in, everyone did a fantastic job, and I’m just happy with how we’re able to bounce back. Again, any team winning in three sets in the PVL, it’s a good win,” Van Sickle said during the post-game press conference.
It was also a rebound win for Koji Tsuzurabara’s squad after falling in a five-set marathon against the Chery Tiggo Crossovers just last March 21.
Ivy Perez was their go-to playmaker after tallying 10 excellent sets in the victory.
“I’m just happy to bounce back and ready to get back in the gym and work hard ’cause we have a very tough team coming up, so we gotta lock in,” Van Sickle also said.
She was referring to their fight against defending champion Creamline, which they will face after Holy Week at the Santa Rosa Sports Complex.
The Roger Gorayeb-coached squad set forth a challenge in the dying moments of Set 2, after orchestrating a 9-2 run from a 22-10 separation, capped by a block point from the Solar Spikers, but Nicole Tiamzon ended the frame for the Gazz Angels with an attack off the hands of the blockers.
Petro Gazz later scored seven straight points in the final chapter, from a 13-9 separation and never looked back.
No Capital1 player was on a twin-digit record in all categories. (ABS-CBN News)
