Following a five-set defeat against the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses, the De La Salle University (DLSU) Lady Spikers hacked out a sweep against the Ateneo Blue Eagles on Saturday, March 2.

DLSU star Angel Canino said that the Taft-based squad made a lot of adjustments to move on from their loss, and she was glad about how they were able to translate this against their rivals.

“Sobrang laki ng adjustments na ginawa ng team namin, and I’m happy to see ‘yung applications na ginawa namin just for a week nung natalo kami,” the 5-foot-11 hitter, who had 10 points that were built from nine attacks and a block, said.

This was a welcome development for Canino, especially since negativity clouded their heartbreak.

The Season 85 ROTY-MVP was among those who got criticized following the loss, with people from social media taking note of her in-game expressions.

Canino said, however, that she was not giving these things any attention.

“I was able to tune out everything because I don’t do social media right now,” Canino revealed.

“So wala akong nakikita kahit ano mang negative o positive ‘yung sinasabi po nila. Wala po akong nakikita. For me, it’s important to protect my peace of mind.”

Canino then added she is instead focusing on the support that she is receiving.

“Pero malaki [ang] pasasalamat ko sa positive comments. Sa mga lumalapit sa family ko, maraming salamat po sa kanila kasi ‘yun po talaga ‘yung totoong nagsusuporta sakin,” offered Angel.

Setting aside this issue, Canino bared that her focus is on taking their assignments one game at a time, especially since their next opponent is the Casiey Dongallo-starred University of the East (UE) Lady Warriors.

“Kagaya nga po ng sabi ni coach Ramil [de Jesus] kanina, one game at a time, and kailangan namin matutunan pati na rin ‘yung kalaban namin kasi, ayun nga po, ‘yung bawat team may iba’t-ibang system,” Canino said.

“Kailangan lang namin silang matutunan pa,” she added.

La Salle and UE’s bout is scheduled on Wednesday, March 6 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City at 4:00 p.m. (ABS-CBN News)
