The De La Salle University (DLSU) Lady Spikers overcame a fluctuating performance to secure a victory against the Far Eastern University (FEU) Lady Tamaraws, 25-20, 25-17, 25-22, in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday, February 21.

Negrense Angel Canino, who top-scored with 13 points, admitted that the Lady Spikers had multiple lapses, especially in the third set, where they allowed the Lady Tamaraws to threaten to within two points.

“Actually, nakukulangan pa po talaga [sa effort]. Lahat naman po kami sa team, nakukulangan pa po sa galaw namin, which means kailangan pa po naming mag-doble kayod sa training,” Canino said.

For his part, Lady Spikers assistant coach Noel Orcullo stated that head coach Ramil de Jesus was also not satisfied with the team’s up-and-down performance against the Lady Tamaraws.

“Medyo nag-struggle nga kasi sobrang erratic, parang tentative ‘yung galaw nila. Pinaalalahanan lang namin during timeout na bumalik sa sistema,” Orcullo said in a post-game interview.

Shevana Laput contributed 10 points, while Thea Gagate and Alleiah Malaluan had eight and seven points, respectively, for the defending champion Lady Spikers, which improved to a 2-0 record.

Gerzel Petallo had seven points, 10 receptions and eight digs, while Faida Bakanke, Chen Tagaod, Jean Asis, and Devosora also supplied six points apiece for the Lady Tamaraws (1-1).

Meanwhile, the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Golden Tigresses rallied from a set down to triumph over the University of the East Lady Warriors, 18-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-22, as they tied the Lady Spikers on top.

Rookie Angeline Poyos had another stellar outing of 24 points, on 19 attacks, three service aces and two blocks, as the Golden Tigresses tied the Lady Spikers with a 2-0 win-loss slate.

Regina Jurado chipped in 16 points on 15 attacks and a service ace, while Xyza Gula came off the bench to deliver 10 attacks, and Margaret Banagua ended with nine points for UST./ASC, WDJ
