At least 35 passengers were injured after a bus fell on its side at Barangay Salong in Negros Occidental’s Kabankalan City yesterday morning.
Kabankalan police chief, Lt. Colonel Roberto Indiape, Jr. said the bus was bound for the city’s Barangay Bantayan from Bacolod City when the accident happened around 9:30 a.m.
Indiape said the bus stopped on an uphill slope in Sitio Bandihanas after the inspector disembarked from the vehicle.
The vehicle suddenly moved in reverse, as this prompted the driver to apply the brakes, he said.
However, the driver failed to stop the bus until it fell on its side.
A police investigation revealed that the bus encountered mechanical trouble.
The passengers and the bus conductor sustained minor injuries in the incident.
They were rushed to a hospital.
Indiape said the bus driver was placed in police custody.
Meanwhile, the bus company said they have extended medical assistance to the passengers.
The firm will also conduct an investigation into the incident./WDJ
