The price of eggs being sold in various markets in Negros Occidental is declining amid oversupply.
Provincial Veterinary Office head Dr. Placeda Lemana said the price of large-sized eggs has dropped by five centavos per piece.
However, the prices of small-, medium- and extra large-sized eggs have increased by P0.10.
Farm-gate egg prices declined to as low as P4.
Negros Occidental produces more than one million eggs daily, and is also receiving supplies from neighboring Panay and Cebu islands.
Earlier, the Department of Agriculture called on the public to consume more eggs to address oversupply in local production.
In Metro Manila, a tray of eggs at the Commonwealth Market in Quezon City is being sold for as low as P160.
The oversupply was due to low consumption during the holiday season./DGB, WDJ
