PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial has issued a stern warning to Magnolia forward Calvin Abueva following his recent antics both on and off the court.
In an interview with reporters before Game 3 of the 2023-2024 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals on Wednesday night, February 7, Marcial said Abueva might get banned again from the league if he repeats his antics.
Abueva was seen mocking the physical disability of San Miguel coach Jorge Gallent during Game 2 of the best-of-seven series.
“Calvin, ‘yung ugali mo ulit ha. Kaya kita binan noon dahil sa mga pinaggagagawa mo. Okay naman sa ‘kin ‘yung ma-ano ka sa court, pero tigilan mo ‘yung mga discrimination, antics and gesture at kung anong ginagawa mo. Baka i-ban kita ulit or i-suspend,” Marcial said.
“Comm, ‘di na mangyayari ulit,” Abueva said.
“Tandaan mo lang, sinasabi ko na sa ‘yo,” Marcial added, saying that the player who had a history of “gutsy” antics swore not to repeat the action.
“So ‘yan ang sinabi ko kay Calvin,” he added.
Abueva previously served a 16-month-long suspension for unfortunate confrontations involving former TNT import Terrence Jones and the then-rumored girlfriend of Bobby Ray Parks, Jr.
“Ang masamang ginawa mo ‘yung kay Coach Gallent, sabi ko, dun kita pipinahan. So pininahan ko ng P100,000,” Marcial said.
PBA said in a statement that league rules state that “any person who offends the dignity of any person on account of ‘physical disability’ shall be subject to a fine not lower than P100,000.”
Marcial said he heard Abueva’s side and shared that the Magnolia forward got annoyed when he and Mo Tautuaa’s wife had eye contact after the match.
“Napikon siya kay Coach Gallent. Dun naman sa misis ni Mo [Tautuaa], nagkatinginan lang sila na at ‘di nagkatugma kaya nagkaroon ng girian,” the commissioner said. (ABS-CBN News)
