PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial and his office have their hands full yet again following the Commissioner’s Cup Finals spat that involved Magnolia’s Calvin Abueva, San Miguel’s Mo Tautuaa, and the wives of both players on Sunday night, February 4.
Marcial revealed that investigations were already underway, and he had already been in contact with Tautuaa and the San Miguel Beermen’s camp.
“Kausap ko ‘yung San Miguel management kagabi pati si Mo,” he told ABS-CBN News.
“Sinabi ko na magga-gather muna ako ng mga videos, pati ‘yung mga tao na nakakita kung anong nangyari, after noon, isa-submit ko sa technical group.”
“Tapos kailangan kong makausap ‘yung dalawang players,” he continued, referring to the aforementioned players.
Abueva and Tautuaa’s wife got into a shouting match following the Beermen’s Game 2 win at the Mall of Asia Arena, and the Magnolia forward was later heard daring Tautuaa into a fistfight.
Abueva’s wife alleged that they were disrespected by Tautuaa’s wife.
Beermen governor Robert Non and team consultant Leo Austria were seen placating the Abuevas before they made their exit from the venue.
Marcial said that Abueva’s reputation may be considered in the league’s decision about the incident. The mercurial forward has been involved in heated incidents in the past seasons.
“Pwede. Pwedeng hindi,” said the former league media bureau chief of “The Beast,” who was once slapped with an indefinite suspension that lasted for more than a year.
That incident happened in 2019, and it involved him “clotheslining” former TNT Katropa import Terrence Jones while Calvin was still with the Phoenix Fuel Masters.
“Tignan natin. Sa ‘kin naman, kung ano talaga ‘yung ginawa niya, pinagsabihan na naman natin siya.”
“So, sa akin, hindi factor as of now,” he added.
Marcial then went on to touch on the possibility of disallowing both of their respective wives to watch and attend the games in the venues.
“Pwede rin, pwede rin ‘yun,” he offered, while also saying that countless possibilities are still in place regarding their sanctions.
“Madaming pwedeng mangyari, kung gaano kalaki ‘yung gravity ng ginawa nila.”
Marcial gave an indefinite answer when he was asked about when the results of the investigation would come out, especially since it may affect the third Game of the Finals on Wednesday, February 7.
“Kakausapin ko muna silang dalawa,” he said, explaining that their priority for now is reaching all the involved parties and getting all the necessary pieces of evidence.
“Hindi pa man hanggang Wednesday, pero for sure kakausapin ko muna ‘yung dalawa,” he concluded. (ABS-CBN News)
