The Philippine Coast Guard District Western Visayas (CGDWV) confirmed that the newly-constructed lighthouse near the commercial port in Negros Occidental’s Cadiz City is now in operation.
CGDWV commander, Captain Weniel Azcuna, said the lighthouse is solar-powered and requires minimal maintenance.
Azcuna said the mariners have been issued a notice informing them the lighthouse is in operation.
The CGDWV commander also said that they have signed a memorandum of agreement with the Cadiz City government to maintain the P10-million lighthouse.
As the new lighthouse is now in operation, the city’s old lighthouse located at the mouth of the Hitalon River will be decommissioned./DGB, WDJ
