The only surviving kin in the Himamaylan massacre has not filed any formal charges against the perpetrators, the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) said yesterday.

NOCPPO director, Colonel Leo Pamittan said Emily Fausto, who managed to escape the massacre in June last year, was not cooperating with the police.

The NOCPPO tried to convince Emily to sign the complaint affidavit for the formal filing of criminal charges against the suspects behind the massacre.

“Ayaw naming i-coerce siya … Mas lalong hindi siya mag-cooperate,” Pamittan said.

He said Emily had been cooperative in police investigations before, but now they have no idea why she refused to cooperate with them.

Pamittan said they cannot file criminal cases on behalf of the complainant, unless they get the family’s consent.

In June last year, couple Imelda and Rolly Fausto, along with two of Emily’s younger siblings, Ben and Raben, were found riddled with bullets at their home at Sitio Kangkiling in Himamaylan City’s Barangay Buenavista.

Investigations later revealed that the New People’s Army (NPA) was behind the murders.

They later denied the allegations, and accused Rolly of being an informant for government forces.

The NPA also accused the Philippine Army’s 94th Infantry Battalion as the ones responsible for the murders, but the latter quickly rebuffed the allegations./DGB, WDJ
