A grandfather was arrested after he allegedly raped and killed his 17-year-old granddaughter in Negros Occidental’s Cadiz City on Sunday, January 7.
Cadiz police chief, Lt. Colonel Joel Batusbatusan, said 62-year-old Federico Delfin, a resident of Cadiz’s Barangay Magsaysay, was arrested in Kabankalan City’s Barangay Tampalon yesterday.
Based on information gathered by police, at around 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, the 17-year-old victim, whom they have requested not be named, was last seen doing laundry beside a deep well in Cadiz City’s Purok Masinulondon, before she reportedly disappeared.
She was found dead in the sugarcane field the following day, with a slash wound on the neck, a missing finger, and an ear nearly cut-off.
A post-mortem examination of the remains turned out that she was sexually assaulted.
The authorities quickly identified Delfin as the suspect.
He immediately fled to Barangay Tampalon, but he was traced and arrested.
Delfin admitted to killing the victim due to anger, but denied that he sexually assaulted her.
He is facing rape and homicide charges, and he was turned over to Cadiz police./DGB, WDJ
