The price of lechon or roast pig in Bacolod City’s Purok Lechonan has increased a few days before Christmas.

Based on information from vendors, the price of lechon is now at P800 per kilo, while the whole lechon is now being sold from P7,000 to P10,000.

A price increase was observed, as lechon was sold at P6,500 in the previous weeks.

Lechon sellers said the price is expected to increase further today.

Despite concerns over hog cholera and African swine fever, consumer interest in this popular holiday dish remains strong.

Sellers have also noted an uptick in pre-order bookings for Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

The vendors have also addressed safety concerns, while strictly adhering to biosecurity protocols and regulations on food preparation./DGB, WDJ
