A former member of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) voluntarily surrendered to the authorities in Negros Occidental’s Don Salvador Benedicto town on Thursday, December 21.

“Junjun,” 44 years old, a resident of San Carlos City, surrendered to the 1st Negros Occidental Provincial Mobile Force Company in the town’s Barangay Bunga.

He was previously affiliated with the New People’s Army-National Negros Front’s Komiteng Rehiyon-NCBS.

During his surrender, Junjun turned over a caliber .38 revolver with ammunition, a blasting cap, and 40mm grenade ammunition.

He will undergo processing and documentation for endorsement to the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program, which aims to provide appropriate project benefits to former rebels who choose to reintegrate into society.

As a token of immediate assistance, Junjun received a sack of rice upon surrendering.

Police Regional Office in Western Visayas director Sidney Villaflor commended the efforts and sacrifices of the troops involved in the successful surrender.

Villaflor emphasized the importance of the community-driven initiatives aimed at achieving lasting peace in the region./JB, WDJ
