Several members of the United Negros Alliance (UNegA) are currently urging Negros Occidental Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer to seek another term in the midterm elections in 2025.

Cadiz City Mayor and UNegA secretary-general Salvador Escalante, Jr. revealed that a majority of local chief executives under UNegA, during their Christmas party on December 9, said they want Ferrer to seek re-election.

However, Escalante said it would be up to Ferrer to decide.

“Nothing is definite yet about the 2025 elections,” Escalante said.

UNegA will also hold a general assembly at least three months before the filing of the certificates of candidacy in October 2024 for the 2025 midterm elections.

In November, Ferrer announced that he would no longer run for a final term as Negros Occidental vice governor, and would seek the 4th district’s congressional post instead.

After his announcement, several possible candidates for the province’s vice gubernatorial bid in 2025 have surfaced.

The individuals that were reported to have been shortlisted by UNegA are Negros Occidental board member Jose Marie Alonso, Bago City Mayor Nicholas Yulo, Himamaylan City Mayor Raymund Tongson, and La Castellana Mayor Rhumylla Mangilimutan./DGB, WDJ
