The Negros Occidental Provincial Health Office (PHO) reminded Negrenses to eat in moderation this holiday season as they expect an increase in the number of holiday-related illnesses.
PHO head, Dr. Girlie Pinongan, said the public tend to forget that they are already indulging in food and alcoholic beverages during Christmas parties.
She said they saw a spike in cardiovascular illnesses, such as high blood pressure, stroke and heart attacks, as well as diabetes during the holidays.
The PHO head reminded Negrenses to consume lechon in moderation, and not to forget to eat fruits and vegetables.
Pinongan said proper hygiene must be observed while preparing food to avoid gastrointestinal illnesses.
She added that catering services must have the relevant permits to operate, and local health offices must strictly implement sanitary regulations./DGB, WDJ
