Bacolod Tay Tung teams top 1st Gov’s Cup volley tourney

Teams from the Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts emerged on top in the 1st Governor Eugenio “Bong” Lacson Cup 15-under volleyball tournament at the Montalbo Covered Court in Bacolod City on Monday afternoon, November 27.

The Bacolod Tay Tung-A team captured the championship following a 25-21, 25-15 straight-set victory over the Bacolod Tay Tung-B team in the one-game finale.

Rhose Viane Almendralejo was named Most Valuable Player for her consistent performance for Tay Tung Thunderbolts-A, while Alexa Bertolano came away with the Best Opposite Spiker.

Also with individual awards for Tay Tung Thunderbolts-A are Jan Rose Bulak as Best Setter, Edz Escultura as 1st Best Middle Blocker, Brianna Nikola Ang as 2nd Best Middle Blocker, and Czarina Dosayla as 1st Best Open Spiker.

Other members of the Tay Tung Thunderbolts-A team are Ana Ysabelle Hermosura, Remiah Caitlin Espinosa, Mary Antonette Bontia, and Kara Sophia Feril.

Meanwhile, bannering the Tay Tung Thunderbolts-B squad are Best Libero awardee Luchi Vivero and 2nd Best Outside Spiker winner Memielle Letran.

Completing the roster are Kyana Cortez, Zelver Bangiao, Shannen Bañas, Samantha Cañete, Janiyah Lagulao, Riza Andrada, Yz Montalbo, Ariane Alayon, and Athena Magbanua.

Meanwhile, the One Silay Sports U-15 girls volleyball team claimed the second runner-up finish, while San Carlos City ended up in fourth place in the competition.

The three-day tournament, participated by 20 volleyball teams, was organized to ensure the development of volleyball athletes aged 15 and below in the province.

“We believe that it is not crucial to overlook our younger athletes, especially aged 15 and below. Our aim is to maintain the momentum in volleyball within this age group,” Jose Montalbo said./ASC, WDJ
