Michele Gumabao was unstoppable in Batangas as she steered the Creamline Cool Smashers in pummeling the Cignal HD Spikers in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) on Saturday, October 21.
Gumabao delivered a scoring masterclass at the Batangas City Sports Center to help Creamline rip the HD Spikers, 25-20, 25-20, 25-16, in the second 2023 All-Filipino Conference.
The win improved the Cool Smashers’ record to 2-0, while the HD Spikers slid to a 1-1 slate in the season-ending conference.
Gumabao poured in 20 points in a three-setter match highlighted by 19 attacks, while Tots Carlos added 10 to lift the team to victory.
After taking the first two sets in front of predominantly Creamline supporters in Batangas, the Cool Smashers created a 14-7 separation midway through the third — thanks to the back-to-back kills of Gumabao.
Ces Molina would string a couple of points to keep the Creamline at a striking distance, 11-16, but Gumabao and Carlos eventually widened the gap anew, 19-12.
Jema Galanza’s off-the-block spike followed by an attack error by Riri Meneses gave the Cool Smashers their biggest lead in the set and reached match point, 24-15.
Carlos punctuated the game with a pipe attack.
Molina was the lone bright spot for the HD Spikers with 17 points on 15 spikes and two blocks.
They played with Jovelyn Gonzaga, though, who only had six markers.
Rachel Anne Daquis has yet to suit up for Cignal.
Meanwhile, Ced Domingo was present in the game, but did not suit up for Creamline.
This was after the team revealed that she would be playing overseas. (ABS-CBN News)
