Gymnasts from different regions are set to compete in the 6th National Rhythmic Gymnastics Competition slated from October 19 to 21 at the Bacolod Tay Tung High School Pohang Gymnasium in Bacolod City.

According to MK Gymnastics Club co-founder Ma. Kristina Alagaban, 80 gymnasts from 14 gymnastics clubs have already expressed their intention to participate in the three-day competition.

Alagaban added that the competition aims to provide an avenue for gymnasts to showcase their rhythmic gymnastics skills and prowess whilst developing friendship and camaraderie among the rhythmic gymnastics clubs across the country.

“We organized this competition to promote rhythmic gymnastics, not just as a sport, but as a medium to build harmonious relationships among gymnasts and the respective clubs,” Alagaban said.

“We want them to develop that bond among their fellow gymnasts as they are one, even if they belong to different rhythmic gymnastics clubs around the country,” she said.

She added that the participating gymnasts would compete in different categories and vie for the podium finish and special awards, such as Miss Smile, Miss Audience Choice, Miss Artistic, Miss Flexibility, Miss Charming, and Miss Bacolod.

Prizes such as cash, medals, trophies, and certificates will also be given to all winning gymnasts and clubs, Alagaban, the founder of the renowned rhythmic gymnastics club in Bacolod, added.

She shared that her club did not stop promoting gymnastics even during the pandemic, as they organized an online rhythmic gymnastics international competition two years ago.

“We are proud to say that we conducted the first-ever online rhythmic gymnastics competition during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a testament of our desire to promote the sport,” Alagaban said.

The 6th MK Rhythmic Gymnastics Competition is organized by the MK Gymnastics Club and Coach Kris Joy Leeping, the national tournament director for rhythmic gymnastics competition of the recently-concluded Palarong Pambansa staged in Marikina City./ASC, WDJ
