No cases have been filed against police officers who were allegedly involved in the illegal police recruitment scam in Negros Occidental’s La Castellana town, the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) said.

BCPO director, Colonel Noel Aliño, said four BCPO personnel were relieved from their duties and have already turned over their firearms after their alleged involvement in the scam.

However, it was not an indication that they are guilty, he said.

He added that the involved personnel are now under investigation.

Negros Occidental Provincial Police-Internal Affairs Service head, Randy Bando, said the four BCPO officers, including a non-uniformed personnel, were included in the complaints, but they were not directly linked to collecting recruitment money.

Earlier, 11 large-scale estafa charges were filed against La Castellana Councilor Donato Dumaguit and Mary Jun delos Santos in connection to the alleged recruitment scam.

At least 47 individuals sought the help of law enforcement agencies after they were scammed for police recruitment in exchange for P300,000 each.

The victims were residents of Bacolod City, and the towns of Moises Padilla and La Castellana.

The National Police Commission in Western Visayas, the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, and the National Bureau of Investigation are now investigating the scam.

Dumaguit admits that he is now in hiding, and claims that he discovered an alleged plot on his life.

He said he is prepared to surrender to the authorities once law enforcement track down and arrest Delos Santos./WDJ
