Officials and volunteers in various local government units (LGUs) in Negros Occidental, including capital Bacolod City, joined socio-civic activities such as coastal clean-up, mangrove planting, and a medical mission to mark the 66th birthday of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. on Wednesday, September 13.

In Bacolod, Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez led the cleanup of the coastline of Barangay Banago, which was followed by a medical-dental mission in Barangay Villamonte.

“I wish him all the good health because of the major challenges posed by our problems. Wisdom and guidance of our Lord for him to be able to perform and govern effectively,” the mayor said as his birthday wish for the President.

Volunteers collected four truckloads of washed-up garbage while 60 families, who were victims of a recent fire in Barangay 7, availed free medical services.

In the neighboring Bago City, officials and residents also joined the mangrove planting and coastal cleanup in Barangay Sampinit.

Participants planted about 4,000 mangrove propagules and collected 15 sacks of residual waste.

“Mr. President, we pray that you continue to have good health as you serve the Filipino people,” Mayor Nicholas Yulo said in his message.

Down north, the medical and dental mission and feeding program in Talisay City served some 1,210 recipients.

In Victorias City, some 300 beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program participated in a boodle fight and received food packs of rice and canned goods.

Food packs were also distributed to 338 home-based or work-from-home online workers affected by the recent city-wide power outage.

In E. B. Magalona town, some 500 municipal government officials and personnel gathered in a Pinoy breakfast boodle fight in the public plaza.

In the town of Don Salvador Benedicto, more than a thousand residents availed various services brought by the provincial government under the Retooled Community Support Program coinciding with the Chief Executive’s birthday.

Initiatives have been held simultaneously in LGUs across the country to celebrate the President’s birthday. (PNA)
