The anti-colorum campaign of the Bacolod City government has resulted in the apprehension of nine traditional public utility jeepneys (PUJs) on Monday, September 11.
Liba said the apprehended PUJs plying in the city violated Republic Act 4136, or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.
Renato Novero, chief of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Bacolod, said a P120,000 fine will be imposed for jeepney operators not having franchise permits, and a P15,000 fine for no registration permits.
The apprehended jeepneys will be impounded.
Novero, along with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), met with the city government officials, the Bacolod City Traffic Authority (BTAO), and the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) in relation to the agency’s operation against colorum jeepneys plying on city routes.
BTAO head, Police Major Junji Liba said the anti-colorum operation is ongoing.
The operation was conducted by LTO, LTFRB, BTAO, the Mobile Patrol Unit of the Bacolod City Police Office, Public Order and Safety Office, BCPO’s Traffic Enforcement Unit, and the Highway Patrol Group.
At least eight members of the Philippine National Police will be deputized by the LTO.
Novero said they need at least 20 deputized personnel to augment in their operation./MS, WDJ
