Habagat, ‘Goring’ affect 483 barangays in WV

Around 483 barangays were affected by the southwest monsoon or habagat, which is enhanced by tropical cyclone “Goring” in Western Visayas, according to a progress report from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD).

Based on the report, two barangays were in the province of Aklan, 114 were in Antique, 210 were located in Iloilo, while 138 were in Negros Occidental, and 19 were in the province of Guimaras.

A total of 42,859 or 150,965 individuals were affected, where 8,442 families or 30,884 individuals evacuated to 310 evacuation centers, while 2,210 families or 8,678 persons were served outside evacuation centers.

A total of 123 flooding incidents were recorded across the region and one rain induced landslide in Guimaras and five rain induced landslides were recorded in Iloilo.

Classes and work were also suspended in some areas of the region due to heavy downpours and flooding.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development-6 gave a total of 7,863 family food packs, 281 hygiene kits, 31 sleeping kits, and 20 modular tents to affected individuals in the provinces of Antique, Iloilo and Negros Occidental.

The OCD-6 is continuously monitoring the situation and in close coordination with the different provincial, city and municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices all over the region. (PIA-6)
