Due to inclement weather brought by the southwest monsoon or “habagat” enhanced by Typhoon “Goring,” the garbage collection in Bacolod City was hampered.
The bridge in Barangay Felisa, where the city’s sanitary landfill is located, was impassable yesterday due to floodwaters, according to Ma. Fe Tresfuentes, officer-in- charge (OIC) of the city’s Department of Public Services (DPS).
Tresfuentes said the dump trucks of the IPM Construction and Development Corporation (IPM-CDC) were not able to pass by the bridge since August 28 to dispose the collected garbage to the sanitary landfill. Thus, garbage collection from households were affected.
The DPS OIC is asking for understanding of the residents, but she assured that once the bridge will become passable again the garbage contractor will immediately collect the garbage.
Meanwhile, Tresfuentes said the IPM-CDC has deployed 12 big trucks to collect the garbage in critical areas of the city like the main roads, downtown and markets.
As garbage collection from households is yet to resume, Tresfuentes appealed to the residents to pack their garbage thoroughly and, if possible, refrainfromleavingitforthe meantime along the roads so as not to be swept away byfloodwaters./(PanayNews) WDJ
