The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) was urged to provide additional police visibility near private and public schools in the city during the opening of classes on August 29.

Through a resolution, the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) requested BCPO director, Police Colonel Noel Aliño to provide additional police patrols to prevent crimes and other untoward incidents near schools.

This is also to ensure the safety of students, faculty and parents, the resolution read.

Meanwhile, following reports on numerous road accidents involving motorists and pedestrians in the city, Councilor Claudio Jesus Puentevella said the SP has approved another resolution requesting BTAO to strictly enforce the city’s anti-jaywalking ordinance.

He said, upon observation, several road accidents involving residents who were not using designated pedestrian lanes were recorded for several months, and some were even fatal.

The strict enforcement of the anti-jaywalking ordinance may prevent any untoward road accidents in the future.

It will also deter them from jaywalking, the councilor added.

The two resolutions were passed recently./MS, WDJ
