A farmer, accused of being a military informant, was shot to death at Barangay Quintin Remo in Negros Occidental’s Moises Padilla town on August 5.

Town police said 28-year-old laborer Joemarie Benitez, a resident of the said place, was allegedly shot by suspects identified as Reynaldo Catasio, Marlo Catasio, Jesus Molena, Rolando Juanites, and Carmilito Juanites, alleged members of the New People’s Army – Sparu Unit, police said.

Benitez’s mother, Erlinda, said the suspects and her son were having dinner.

Joemarie was invited by the suspects to go outside of the house.

She heard four gunshots and found her son lying on the ground.

An initial police investigation showed the victim succumbed to two fatal wounds to the head.

A post-mortem examination on the victim’s body is being conducted.

Erlinda said the suspects accused her son of being an informant of the Philippine Army, the probable cause of the shooting.

The family will file charges against the suspects./WDJ
