An angler drowned to his death after he accidentally fell from his boat off the coast of Barangay Aguisan in Negros Occidental’s Himamaylan City on Saturday, July 29.

Authorities identified the fatality as 26-year-old Joven Buenaflor.

Coast Guard District in Western Visayas spokesperson, Commander Jansen Benjamin said, based on the report from their substation, Buenaflor was fishing with his friends around 200 meters from the shoreline when their boat was slammed by a big wave, causing him to fall off.

The victim was swept away by the strong current.

Buenaflor was later found floating in the water by responding Coast Guard personnel.

He was rushed to the city’s Governor Valeriano M. Gatuslao Memorial Hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival./DGB, WDJ
