The Negros Oriental provincial government assured of its continuous service in times of disasters and other calamities.

Adrian Sedillo, executive director of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, said the provincial leadership made the assurance during the opening of the five-day Public Service Continuity Plan (PSCP) seminar-workshop at the Negros Oriental Convention Center in this provincial capital, attended by Capitol officials and employees.

“Governor [Manuel] Sagarbarria vowed to support and allocate a budget for the province’s PSCP as he challenged the participants to make sure that regular services of the provincial government would not be interrupted even when disaster strikes,” Sedillo told the Philippine News Agency.

He noted that in the event of a disaster or emergency, government employees also end up as victims, hence they cannot report for work, too.

The governor wants to ensure that there will be enough personnel to carry out the transactions of the provincial government while also responding to a disaster, he added.

The governor did not give a specific budget as yet, pending the drafting of the province’s PSCP after the seminar-workshop concludes.

Sedillo said the PSCP is a requirement of the Civil Service Commission and the Commission on Audit for local government units to have their respective plans and “ensure the continuity of operations even during emergencies and disasters.”

Sedillo thanked Sagarbarria for approving the training, which was facilitated by the Office of Civil Defense in Region 7.

It will be cascaded to different offices later, he added.

The training is also in line with the provincial government’s celebration of National Disaster Resilience Month this July. (PNA)
