The Bacolod City Legal Office (CLO) is scheduled to demolish 32 informal settler houses along Mambuloc Creek in Barangays 2 and 6.

City Legal Officer Romeo Carlos Ting, Jr. said informal settlers had given notice of 30 days upon receipt to vacate their homes.

Ting said they will initiate the demolition so that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) can proceed with the rehabilitation project at the creek.

The demolition supposedly started yesterday, but due to rain, the city government moved it today.

The CLO first served the notice to vacate for the affected informal settler families at the creek in May.

A P10,000 financial assistance will be provided for each affected family, but it will be distributed once their structures have already been demolished.

The city will also provide a relocation site in the city’s Barangay Vista Alegre, and they will assist them to transport their belongings.

The Mambuloc Creek will be rehabilitated due to clogged waterways and the recent flooding in the Reclamation Area./MS, WDJ
