One of the three victims of the shooting incident at Barangay Alimango in Negros Occidental’s Escalante City early Saturday morning, July 1, died while undergoing treatment.

Police Captain Judesses Catalogo, Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office spokesperson, said the family of 18-year-old Jevan Sayson informed Escalante police that he had passed away after he succumbed to a gunshot wound to the side of his body, which hit his kidney.

Catalogo said the suspect, Romualdo Abarido Jr., now faces a homicide charge and two counts of frustrated homicide and direct assault on a person in authority following the shooting incident.

A brawl erupted between two groups of civilians at Sitio Libo during the village fiesta.

Police Master Sergeant Teofesto Aburido, a member of the city police’s intelligence unit, responded and tried to break up the two groups when Abarido allegedly pulled out a firearm and opened fire, hitting him, Sayson, and 34-year-old Jay-r Garganera.

Abarido was immediately arrested by police./DGB, WDJ
