Negros Occidental 5th District Congressman Emilio Yulo III supports the call of the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) to impose the suggested retail price (SRP) of P85 per kilo of sugar.

According to Yulo, the SRP should have been implemented a long time ago.

“The blame is on the sugar producers. We all know what should supposedly be the price of our refined sugar,” Yulo said.

SRA acting administrator Pablo Luis Azcona earlier said the SRP should be implemented, especially in Metro Manila where the commodity is currently being sold at P110 per kilo.

Azcona said there is enough supply of sugar in the market, so there are no reasons why retailers can’t bring down the prices affordable for the consumers.

“Everyone is profiting enough to make it available to the consuming public at P85 per kilo,” he said.

Azcona added the SRA has no powers to enforce the SRP and called on other government agencies, particularly the local government units to implement it./DGB, WDJ
