The body of a security guard, who was allegedly drowned during a boat excursion, was recovered off the coast of Sitio Sibucao in Bacolod City’s Barangay Banago yesterday.

Authorities identified the victim as 36-year-old Glenn Cahaponon, a resident of Purok Lison in the city’s Barangay 1, who worked for a local business process outsourcing company.

Coast Guard District in Western Visayas spokesperson, Commander Jansen Benjamin said Cahaponon along with his friends, Ernesto Roque and Brian Jason Sabio, went on a boat excursion using Cahaponon’s motor banca at around 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 11.

Upon reaching the coastal waters, Cahaponon turned off the boat’s engine and jumped off for a swim.

However, he drifted away from his boat due to the strong current.

Roque, even though he doesn’t know how to swim, attempted to rescue Cahaponon by also jumping into the water, but Cahaponon quickly disappeared.

Roque managed to hold on to the motor banca.

They immediately went to the Coast Guard Station in Bacolod to report the incident./DGB, WDJ
