Advocacy group Power Watch Negros (PWN) has urged the management of Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) to publicize the results of the Senate investigation over power outages that happened last month on neighboring Panay Island, which also affected Negros Island.
PWN lead convenor Wennie Sancho said he was informed that Ceneco directors, Eugenio Velasco Jr. and Antonio Panique, attended the Senate hearing in Metro Manila.
Sancho said Ceneco consumers have the right to know what happened during the hearing.
They also wanted to know the real cause of the power outage which took place from April 27 to 29.
Sancho said Senator Raffy Tulfo mentioned the power supply had tripped off, which caused Ceneco’s power grid to disengage, resulting in the power outages.
He added that consumers will be better prepared for sudden brownouts.
Earlier, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said it is looking into what caused the power outages that affected provinces on Panay Island.
The NGCP said it is “determining the root cause of these trippings to provide a universal solution to restore and stabilize the power supply chain.”/DGB, WDJ
