The local police are yet to determine the cause in the hacking of 28-year-old Joerly Tumpag, a resident of Barangay Camalanda-an in Negros Occidental’s Cauayan town.

The suspect was identified as 45-year-old Dante Bensing, a resident of the said place.

An initial investigation revealed that on Monday afternoon, May 15, the victim was having a conversation with Renante Moredo and Renante Bentic outside the latter’s house at the said barangay.

They told the police that Bensing arrived for no apparent reason and allegedly hacked Tumpag, hitting his left leg, which resulted in amputation.

Tumpag tried to flee but he fell on the ground, and the suspect continuously hacked him, police said.

Bensing was in the custodial facility of the police station./MS, WDJ
