The Negros Occidental provincial government plans to give insurance to local raisers who have been affected by hog cholera.
Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said the recent hog deaths recorded in the province were caused by hog cholera and not African swine fever, based on the report from the Bureau of Animal Industry.
Most hog deaths were recorded in the third and fourth districts.
Lacson said they are currently planning to help out the affected hog raisers by giving them insurance.
The said insurance is very similar to the crop insurance given to affected rice farmers.
The provincial government is already coordinating with the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation for the proposed animal insurance./DGB, WDJ
