Two police officers were injured after their motorcycle crashed in an attempt to chase two erring riders in Negros Occidental’s Calatrava town on Saturday afternoon, April 22.
Police identified the injured as Police Staff Sergeant Rex Bacan and Patrolman Rofer Villanueva, both assigned to the Calatrava Municipal Police Station.
The police officers were conducting a routine checkpoint in Barangay Lemery at around 1:10 p.m., local police said.
The police tried to apprehend the two riders who refused to stop at the checkpoint.
However, instead of complying with police, their motorcycle sped off, prompting the two police personnel to chase them using their own motorcycle.
The cops accidentally crashed their motorcycle in the village’s Sitio Dao, and were rushed to the Calatrava Municipal Hospital for treatment.
The riders were able to escape, police said.
An abandoned Honda TMX 155, believed to be used by the suspects, was recovered.
Police are currently investigating the identities of the suspects./DGB, WDJ
