A human skeleton was recovered from a creek in Negros Occidental’s La Carlota City on Thursday, April 20.
La Carlota City police chief, Lt. Colonel Lowell Garinganao said the remains were discovered by Juval Marquez, a resident of the city’s Barangay Haguimit.
According to police records, Marquez was fishing in the creek when he smelled a foul odor.
At first, he thought the odor might be coming from a decomposing animal.
However, when he decided to track where the odor came from, he discovered the remains of an unidentified individual.
Marquez immediately informed the barangay officials, who contacted the city police.
Based on the description, the victim was wearing grey-colored pants and a red shirt, and estimated to be five feet and four inches in height.
Garinganao said the victim was possibly a female, as a dark blue bra and slippers were found with the remains.
The police chief said they had decided to bury the victim as it was already in a state of decomposition.
Garinganao is calling city residents to immediately coordinate with police if they have missing relatives.
La Carlota police are still trying to identify the victim./DGB, WDJ
