Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said he would ask for an update from Police Regional Office in Western Visayas (PRO-6) director, Brigadier General Leo Francisco, after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., issued an order for all Regional Peace and Order Councils to address the political violence and illegal drugs in their respective regions.
Lacson said yesterday morning that the orders by Marcos were “general” in nature and there were no specific areas mentioned during a meeting at Malacañang on Tuesday, April 18.
According to Lacson, the regional peace and order update will give the provincial government an assurance that the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections in October of this year will be peaceful.
Previously, PRO-6 reported that six elected officials in Western Visayas have existing security threats.
One of the elected officials was from Negros Occidental.
The latest order from Marcos stemmed from the assassination of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo in Pamplona town on March 4./DGB, WDJ
