Two men were drowned to their deaths in a deep well at Barangay Minapasuk in Negros Occidental’s Calatrava town on Saturday, April 15.

Authorities identified the fatalities as 32-year-old Joemar Trencio and 24-year-old Roniel Amaro, residents of the village’s Sitio Syding.

Based on an investigation by the town police, the victims decided to clean the narrow well, estimated to be 20-feet deep.

Trencio went down the well, police said.

However, he fell down and was unresponsive, prompting Amaro to rescue him.

Amaro also fell down, police added.

Their neighbors called for assistance from barangay officials.

They were able to retrieve the victims after several hours.

The families decided not to bring the victims to the hospital or call the rescue team because they believed that the victims were already dead, police said./MS, WDJ
