Three people were killed in two separate road accidents in Negros Occidental on Good Friday, April 7.
In Victorias City, 36-year-old Marjorie Magallanes died after a tricycle she was riding was accidentally hit by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) driven by Chinese-national Chen Hai Rui of Bacolod City’s Barangay 14.
Witnesses told Victorias police that Rui was driving the SUV too fast.
The SUV tried to overtake another vehicle but it accidentally struck the motorcycle in the opposite direction, police said.
Magallanes was declared dead on arrival at a hospital, while Rui immediately surrendered to police after the incident.
Meanwhile, 35-year-old truck driver Vengie Noynay allegedly hit a parked tricycle which killed two minors in Sagay City.
His truck then swerved into the sugarcane field.
Two minors, aged 12 and 13, sustained major injuries and were declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
Sagay City police said Noynay was under the influence of alcohol at the time and even assaulted the responding police.
The truck driver is detained at the Sagay City Police Station./DGB, WDJ
