TNT Tropang Giga leaned on a strong third quarter assault to eliminate Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters, 132-105, in the 2022-2023 PBA Governors’ Cup quarterfinals at the Smart Araneta Coliseum yesterday.
Roger Pogoy top-scored with 25 points, to go with 11 rebounds, seven assists and four steals, while Jayson Castro and Glenn Khobuntin chipped in 20 and 19 markers, respectively, as the Tropang Giga barged to the semifinals round.
Reinforcement Rondae Hollis-Jefferson had triple-double 18 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists, while Calvin Oftana and Mikey Williams had 15 and 14 points, respectively, for the Tropang Giga.
The Tropang Giga will face the winner of Meralco Bolts-Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots quarterfinal series in the best-of-five semifinals round.
Holding to a slim 66-64 lead at the half, the Tropang Giga went to work in the third quarter behind conversions from Williams, Pogoy, Khobuntin, and Bacolodnon Justin Chua for a 100-83 advantage.
The Tropang Giga continued to pull away in the final quarter as baskets by Pogoy, Williams and Castro gave them the biggest lead at 120-92 via a dunk from Hollis-Jefferson.
Du’Vaughn Maxwell finished with double-double 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Jason Perkins and Javee Mocon added 21 and 15 markers, respectively, for the Bolts.
